This eLearning course was designed for individuals who wish to become more eco-friendly by changing their lifestyle habits. The learner will discover various ways to positively impact the environment by learning how to modify existing items inside and outside the home. Several real-world examples guide the learner in changing how they use electricity, household products, and transportation.

Audience: Individuals who wish to become more eco-friendly in everyday life.

Responsibilities: Analysis, Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Visual Design, Scripting, Design Document.

Tools: Articulate Storyline 360, Google Docs, WellSaid Labs.

ID Models Used: ADDIE & SAM

Overview

Keeping our environment clean is a collective effort that can only be accomplished when everyone works together. Many factors contribute to environmental issues that people as a community cannot control; however, minor changes from local families can significantly impact slowly saving the Earth.

In creating this course, I analyzed why so few people know how to preserve resources efficiently and manage waste. People are familiar with the terms “reduce, reuse, recycle,” but putting those three words into reality takes effort, changes, and knowledge. My analysis revealed that many know the terms but do not know how to reduce their resource use and reuse what is already owned.

To educate people on living a more sustainable life, I designed and developed an eLearning course that provides the necessary information to minimize environmental harm by changing how to use electricity, household products, and transportation. The main goal of this training is to reduce damage to the environment one individual at a time.

This course has various interactions where learners can click on images and icons to reveal content like the image above.

This knowledge check lets the learner decide if each example is eco-friendly using a drag-and-drop interaction.

The Process

Analysis

A needs analysis was conducted to begin the process of creating this course. When reviewing the target audience, it was concluded that anyone who needs guidance on making eco-friendly changes to their everyday life and wishes to reduce their carbon footprint should complete this training. Since the participant population is geographically dispersed, an asynchronous eLearning experience best meets the learning goals of creating more sustainable homes and minimizing environmental harm.

Design

A design document was created and presented to the subject matter expert (SME) for review. In this phase, a prototype was created, and various iterations were made before moving on to the next step of the process.

Develop

In the development phase of the process, the alpha and beta versions were created using Storyline 360. There were several iterations during the alpha and beta versions, which led to a completed gold version.

Implement

The end product was distributed to all individuals who will use the training to make eco-friendly changes to their everyday life.

Evaluate

Information was collected on every aspect of the training. The data will be used to observe which individuals utilized the information in this course to change their lifestyle habits and what percentage of people are doing it long-term.
